The area of Annapolis real estate has been inhabited since 1649 by Puritan exiles. The town was known as Town of Proctors, Town at the Severn and Anne Arundles before it was became Annapolis. The town was named Annapolis after Princess Anne, who was soon going to be the Queen of Great Britain. The town was incorporated in 1708, becoming one of the earliest towns to officially become a city in the United States.
