History of Chesapeake Beach
Chesapeake Beach real estate began as a resort town, which was at the end of the Chesapeake Beach Railway from Washington, DC. During the 1920s, the weekend population of the beach reached well into the 10,000s. Steamer ships from Baltimore and trains from Washington gave visitors easy access to Chesapeake Beach until a hotel fire and the economic depression brought an end to the railroad. In the 1950s, the new construction of the Bay Bridge sent visitors to Ocean City, Maryland instead of Chesapeake Beach. But in time, new roads and highways were constructed, making access easy once more. Today, the old railroad station is a museum that features an old passenger car and historic photos.
At the turn of the new millennium, developments of new condominiums have risen and the additions of a boardwalk and a pier have been completed. The US Naval Research Laboratory is also located amongst Chesapeake Beach real estate. The laboratory experiments with military radar systems and fire suppression.
